Roger B. Hickler, M.D. 1925 - 2010 Dr. Hickler died peacefully in his home in Lunenburg, Mass. on March 1. He was 84 years old. An internationally-distinguished clinician, researcher, and academic, he was named Lamar Soutter Distinguished Professor of Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, an institution he helped create in the early 1970's, and where he spent the most productive years of his long and extraordinary career. He conducted seminal medical research, authored and co-authored hundreds of scientific papers and abstracts, was a contributing author and editor of classic medical textbooks and journals. He perennially held positions as Chief of Medicine, or Division Chief at prestigious academic medical centers in his specialties of Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine, while maintaining a clinical practice that included such notables as King Saud of Saudi Arabia and the poet Robert Frost. |
